attained dramatic productivity and cost-savings
benefits including a 60% reduction in monthly
telecommunications costs, improved customer service
and reduced network maintenance and administration.
“We are proud to present Vertical with a 2007
INTERNET TELEPHONY Excellence Award. Vertical has
proven its outstanding contribution to IP
communications and delivered winning solutions for
its customers,” said Rich Tehrani, Editor-in-Chief
of INTERNET TELEPHONY.
“Advancing VoIP technology and providing real
solutions have earned Vertical recognition from the
editors of INTERNET TELEPHONY and an INTERNET

delivering solutions and its customers are extremely
pleased and have offered their testaments of

INTERNET TELEPHONY.
“Given Bedford County’s rigorous requirements for
its new communications infrastructure, we were

address their needs,” said Clyde Zimmerman,
president of FiberCom, Inc. “The move to a
state-of-the-art centralized facility enabled us to
move hundreds of workers to a single, unified
system, helping the County to reduce costs, improve
productivity and accommodate future growth
requirements.”
“Vertical is pleased to receive this prestigious

Vertical Communications
and Data-Tel Team Up With ABC´s "Extreme Makeover:
Home Edition" To Donate Award-Winning Home Telephony
Solution for Connecticut Family
Show to Air on ABC Sunday, October 14, 2007 at 8/7PM
Central
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (Oct. 12, 2007) —The Brown Family
of Bridgeport, Connecticut has a new,
state-of-the-art home telephone system courtesy of
Vertical Communications (VRCC.OB)(“Vertical”),
Data-Tel, LLC and ABC Television’s “Extreme
Makeover: Home Edition.”
Gloria Brown’s family home was first devastated by a
tragic fire and then stripped of nearly all
possessions during a subsequent robbery, making for
truly horrific living conditions. Gulick Associates,
a New Canaan-based building firm, took on the
challenge of leading the effort as part of the ABC
“Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” program to build a
brand new home in Bridgeport. Vertical
Communications, a leading provider of
next-generation, IP-based phone systems and voice
applications, donated the STS™ Home Telephone System
– including five backlit 24-button telephones,
integrated voicemail, a door phone and Ranger™ SS
cordless telephone – which was expertly installed by
Vertical’s business partner, Data-Tel, LLC of
Fairfield, CT. On Sunday, October 14, 2007, the new
home will be seen for the first time.
With their new Vertical STS telephone system, the
Brown Family can take advantage of a host of
important calling features. The STS 24-button
telephones are programmed to monitor whether other
telephones within the house are in use; one-touch
speed dialing makes it easy to place intercom calls
to family members elsewhere in the house; each
member of the Brown Family has a custom ring tone;
all of the new telephones have interactive soft keys
that enable quick access to common system features
like group calling with up to 8 of their friends and
family; and the speakerphone feature enables
convenient hands-free use from any phone. With the
door phone installed at the front door, family
members can greet visitors from any phone in the
house.ABC Home Makeover Image
“We are very proud to be a part of this momentous
goodwill undertaking that will benefit the Brown
Family for years to come,” said Steve Gulick,
principal of Gulick Associates, LLC. “The time and
donations received from caring citizens and
businesses like Vertical Communications and Data-Tel
are critical elements for successfully completing
such an enormous project like building a new
homestead for the Brown’s.”
"At Vertical, we strive to be a responsible
corporate citizen in every community we serve,” said
Dick Anderson, executive vice president and general
manager of Vertical Communications. “We are honored
to have this opportunity to participate in the
rebuilding effort for the Brown Family, and are
confident the STS communications system is a great
fit for their needs. We wish them well.”
“We are pleased to have been selected by Gulick
Associates to provide telephone installation
services for this incredible project,” said Joe
Distefano, president of Data-Tel LLC, a Vertical
business partner. “We’re excited to be able to
donate our services and help this deserving family.”
